The Tulen Foundation's Oakland Action!
At any given time, fifteen to twenty percent of the ongoing Oakland self-defense students are being entirely or partially funded by the Tulen Foundation. This amazing generosity allows Oakland to "say yes" to those unable to afford empowerment training and had ensured the health of this very diverse, inner city community center.
Funds for the Oakland programs are entirely raised by the annual Tulen Foundation auction which is quickly approaching, Sunday December 5th. Join us for this fun evening which includes an Indonesian Dinner, martial arts and self-defense performance, and a huge silent auction. Let us know if you'd like to attend or whether you can donate to the auction. Last year's event brought in nearly 250 people and raised nearly $10K which went directly towards funding for those in need. Help us help others -- and have an excellent time doing so!
Also, this year marked the launch of Oakland's Tulen College Recognition Awards. The Foundation aims to award outstanding teen leaders with demonstrated commitment to training their peers in non-violence and self-empowerment. The first TFRA's were given to Ethan Kaiser-Klimist and Amber Haskell. Both teens started with Tulen training nine years ago and have been strong leaders in teaching at many venues - schools, camps and community centers. Amber is headed to Northeastern University; Ethan is a student at Cal State Long Beach. Both were recently awarded $500 from the Foundation for their proven leadership and commitment.
If you are interested in any of our programs, or in making a contribution to the college effort, please contact us at the Tulen Foundation. We believe that changing the world happens by impacting communities through the actions of strong, committed individuals. We - and Amber and Ethan - can do it together!
